How to store your coffee

Storing your coffee, be it whole beans, or ground, is a lot simpler than some sources lead you to believe.

Like most (if not all) organic products, there are 3 main factors that contribute to coffees deterioration. Excess light, temperature, and exposure to oxygen all affect the quality of your coffee, and will shorten it's life, so it is best to limit these factors where possible.

The best way to store your coffee is in a dark, room temperature cupboard, in a bag that restricts air flow. We supply our coffee in black bags with a 1 way valve, which can also be used to store the coffee once opened, simply fold it over and put an elastic band around it to restricts its opening.

You can also use purpose designed coffee jars, Tupperware pots, etc, but be careful with fresh coffee that is still gassing off, as you might end up breaking your favourite containers!

One "tip" to avoid is storing your coffee in the fridge or freezer, as whilst this makes sense by avoiding heat, it introduces moisture into the bag of coffee as the air inside cools, which actually causes your coffee to spoil even faster!

Sometimes the simplest method really is the best, and coffee it seems, is no different.
